RECREATIONAL GYMNASTICS

Whether for enjoyment, exercise, or skill development, recreational gymnastics encourages teamwork, discipline, and-confidence. Recreational gymnastics is a fun, low-pressure class for children who want to learn and enjoy gymnastics skills without the commitment of competition. Classes focus on tumbling, balance, strength, and flexibility while building confidence, friendships, and a love of movement.

What does training look like?

Recreational gymnasts train once or twice per week in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Training focuses on:

  • Basic skills on vault, bars, beam, and floor

  • Safe landings, rolls, handstands, cartwheels, and simple strength work

  • Following circuits and stations with clear coach guidance

  • Having fun, building confidence, and making friends

Classes are designed so children of different experience levels can feel included and successful.

Expectations for gymnasts and families

We expect Recreational gymnasts to:

  • Attend regularly and arrive ready for class

  • Listen to coaches and follow safety rules

  • Try their best and have a go at new skills

  • Treat other gymnasts and coaches with kindness and respect

We expect families to:

  • Help children arrive on time and in suitable clothing

  • Let us know about absences or changes

  • Support a positive attitude to learning, effort, and safety

Recreational Level 1

What it looks like

  • 60‑minute class

  • Focus on fun, confidence, and very basic skills on vault, bars, beam, and floor

  • Lots of stations and simple circuits, big focus on safe landings, shapes, and listening skills

Who it’s for

  • Typically ages 5–9

  • New to gymnastics or with very limited experience

  • Kids who just need a gentle, fun intro to the gym environment

Recreational Level 2

What it looks like

  • 90‑minute class

  • More time for skill development, strength, and flexibility

  • Still recreational and fun, but expectations are a bit higher for focus and following corrections

Who it’s for

  • Typically ages 7–11

  • Kids who have some basic skills and confidence (often coming from Stage 1 or similar)

  • Those ready for a bit more structure and challenge, but not yet in Development

Recreational Level 3

What it looks like

  • 90‑minute class

  • More advanced skills and combinations on all apparatus, with stronger emphasis on technique

  • Still non‑competitive, but more “serious rec” in terms of effort and focus

Who it’s for

  • Typically ages 7–14

  • Confident rec gymnasts who have already built good basics

  • Kids who want to keep progressing skills without moving into Dev or Comp

Recreational Gym Fun

What it looks like

  • Recreational class with a focus on fun, fitness, and skill progression at the gymnast’s own pace

  • Mix of basic and intermediate skills, conditioning, and games or challenges

Who it’s for

  • Ages 12+

  • Older beginners, teens who don’t want the pressure of competition, or ex‑gymnasts returning

  • Great for kids who want to stay active, social, and build skills without committing to squads

How to join Recreational gymnastics

New gymnasts usually start in our Recreational classes.

To join:

  1. Check our current timetable for ages and times.

  2. Contact us to book a place or trial in an appropriate class.

  3. Once enrolled, your child will be placed with a group that suits their age and experience.

Coaches will let you know if they feel your child is ready in future for Development or other programs.
